Class Structure

Our program is designed to be easy and flexible!

Our Clinical Phlebotomy program has been designed to provide you the classroom knowledge that you need, the hands-on practice you want, and real-life experience to ensure that you are prepared in a concise and structured manner to be competitive in the healthcare career market today.

Time well spent - Our program includes two separate learning modules:

  • Classroom experience
  • Clinical experience

Classroom:

The classroom portion of class is seven weeks long, and meets on Monday and Thursday nights.  Students will be provided 2 hours of lecture where you will gain the knowledge required.  Students will also spend time honing their skills by practicing needle insertions on manikins and classmates.

Externship:

After completion of the classroom portion, students will participate in a 40 hour externship at a local clinical laboratory, working along-side a preceptor ; collecting real blood samples on real patients.  Our externships are coordinated with several local laboratory facilities in the Centre Region.  Scheduling is flexible but must occur between 7 am and 5 pm.

Certification:

After classroom and externship hours are complete, our students are eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association Certified Phlebotomist examination.  The exam will be offered through PSI testing facilities.
